Job Location: Baltikuri, Howrah.
Person must have knowledge of Chemistry and the NABL Lab. He must be capable of maintaining all documents as NABL norms.
A chemist working in a National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) lab for an iron and steel manufacturing company plays a critical role in quality control and process management. The position requires meticulous analysis of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to ensure they meet stringent internal and industry standards.
Key roles and responsibilities
Material analysis: Perform chemical analyses on raw materials such as iron ore, coke, and limestone to verify their composition and quality before they are used in production.
Quality control testing: Conduct extensive testing on intermediate and finished products, such as TMT bars, rods, and beams, to ensure they meet specified standards for chemical and physical properties.
Instrument handling: Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory instruments like spectrometers, spectrophotometers, and mechanical testing equipment.
NABL compliance: Maintain all documentation and procedures in strict adherence to NABL and ISO/IEC 17025 standards to ensure the lab’s accreditation is upheld.
Data and reporting: Record, analyze, and report all test results accurately. This includes maintaining detailed laboratory records and preparing graphs and charts to highlight trends.
Safety and maintenance: Follow all safety guidelines and regulations while managing lab operations. This includes handling hazardous chemicals and ensuring the proper maintenance and calibration of all laboratory equipment.
Collaboration: Work closely with production and quality assurance teams to troubleshoot issues and provide technical support to ensure product quality and minimize waste.
Required qualifications and skills
Education: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Metallurgy, or a related field is typically required.
NABL experience: Demonstrated experience working in a NABL-accredited laboratory is essential for this role.
Industry knowledge: Exposure to or experience with industrial chemistry in steel manufacturing or foundries is highly desirable.
Analytical skills: Proficiency in laboratory techniques, strong problem-solving skills, and meticulous attention to detail are critical.
Technical expertise: Hands-on experience with analytical instruments such as spectrometers and other material testing tools is often a prerequisite.
Communication: Strong communication skills are needed to coordinate with internal teams and report findings effectively.
