X-ray technician, also known as a radiologic technologist, is primarily responsible for operating X-ray equipment to produce images of patients’ internal structures for diagnosis, ensuring patient safety by minimizing radiation exposure, preparing patients for procedures, positioning them correctly, and maintaining the quality of imaging equipment by performing routine checks and necessary maintenance.
Key responsibilities of an X-ray technician include:
Patient preparation: Explaining the procedure to patients, positioning them accurately on the X-ray table, and providing necessary instructions to ensure optimal image quality.
Operating X-ray equipment: Adjusting machine settings based on the required examination, selecting appropriate exposure factors, and taking radiographs.
Image quality control: Evaluating X-ray images for clarity and accuracy, retaking images if necessary, and ensuring proper image labeling and documentation.
Radiation safety: Implementing radiation protection measures, using shielding devices, and monitoring radiation exposure to both patients and staff.
Equipment maintenance: Performing routine cleaning and checks of X-ray equipment, identifying and reporting any malfunctions.
Patient care: Addressing patient concerns, providing comfort during procedures, and monitoring patient vital signs when necessary.
Record keeping: Maintaining accurate patient records, including medical history, imaging details, and relevant information.
Collaboration with healthcare team: Communicating findings to radiologists, coordinating with other medical professionals, and following physician orders.
