Security Guard Job Role & Responsibilities

Job Role

A Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of people, property, and premises.

They act as the first line of defense against unauthorized access, theft, vandalism, and potential threats.

Key Responsibilities

Surveillance & Monitoring

Patrol premises regularly (on foot or via CCTV) to maintain security and order

Monitor entrance and exit points, allowing only authorized personnel and visitors

Access Control

Check ID cards, visitor passes, and maintain entry/exit logs

Ensure no unauthorized items are brought into the premises

Protection of Property

Prevent theft, vandalism, and damage to company property

Secure doors, windows, and gates after hours

Incident Response

Respond quickly to alarms, disturbances, or emergencies

Call police, fire department, or medical services when required

Reporting & Documentation

Maintain daily activity logs and incident reports

Report suspicious activities or safety hazards to management

Crowd Control

Manage queues and control crowds during events, emergencies, or rush hours

Safety Enforcement

Ensure compliance with safety regulations

Guide employees/visitors during fire drills or evacuation procedures

Customer Assistance

Provide directions, help visitors, and maintain a courteous attitude

Act as a point of contact for guests entering the premises

Skills & Qualities Required

Good observation and attention to detail

Physically fit and alert

Ability to stay calm under pressure

Basic knowledge of security systems (CCTV, alarms)

Good communication skills
