Housekeeping Staff  Job Role & Responsibilities

Job Role

A Housekeeping Staff member is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and orderliness in residential, commercial, or hospitality premises.

They ensure a safe and pleasant environment for guests, employees, or residents.

Key Responsibilities

Cleaning & Maintenance

Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors, furniture, and fixtures

Clean bathrooms, restrooms, and replenish toiletries

Change bed linens, towels, and make beds (if in hotel/hospital setting)

Sanitization

Disinfect high-touch surfaces (door handles, switches, etc.)

Follow hygiene protocols to maintain a germ-free environment

Waste Management

Collect, segregate, and dispose of garbage properly

Ensure recycling and proper waste handling as per company policies

Stock Management

Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, toiletries, and linen

Report shortages or damages to the supervisor

Guest / Staff Support

Respond to cleaning requests promptly

Provide courteous assistance to guests, patients, or employees

Reporting & Safety

Report any maintenance issues (plumbing, electrical, etc.)

Follow safety procedures while handling cleaning chemicals

Team Coordination

Work with other housekeeping staff to cover all assigned areas

Assist in training new housekeeping employees if required

Skills & Qualities Required

Knowledge of cleaning equipment & chemicals

Physical stamina and attention to detail

Time management skills

Ability to work independently or in a team

Basic communication skills
